History of the Melon Feed
In September 1930, Lee Llewellyn a farmer at the mouth of the Colville River and a charter member of Kettle Falls Lodge #130. He had an abundance of Watermelons. Brother Llewellyn filled his buggy with melons and brought them to Lodge where they were enjoyed by the members, who decided to make the Watermelon feed an annual event and has continued on until the present time.
In 1981 Northport and Kettle Falls Lodges merged. At that time Northport had an annual International Night, they invited the Brethren from BC to come down for an evening of Fellowship. After the merger, the Brethren of Kettle Falls decided to combine the Melon Feed and the International Night, thus becoming the International Melon Feed Night. There have been some years when not many of our BC Brethren could attend because of conflicting events north of the border. Last year we decided to invite the Grand Master of British Columbia.
After learning the process necessary to do so we have been successful, hopefully this will continue to be an annual event with both Grand Masters here to make it a real International Night.
