MEMORANDUM for Lodges
Subject: Fires in Eastern Washington
Brothers this has been a devastating fire season in Eastern Washington and now it
is time for us as Masons to help our fellow Brothers and citizens to the best of our ability.
An emergency declaration was declared by the President of the United States to
help with the relief. The order specifically covers Asotin, Chelan, Douglas, Ferry, Klickitat, Okanogan, Pend Orielle, Skamania, Spokane, Stevens, and Yakima counties. It also brings aid to the Colville, Spokane, Kalispel, and Yakima tribes.
Thousands of residents have been displaced with many homes and businesses destroyed by the fires. The Twisp fire alone covers over 250 square miles, the same fire that took the lives of three fire fighters. My prayers go out to the families and to all those impacted by this devastation.
The recovery will take many years and we as Masons should make it our priority to help. I have directed that $1,000.00 be allocated from the Charity Fund to support this effort. The Fund is named the 2015 Fire Relief Fund. All money collected will be used first to help Masons and Lodges, and next the various communities impacted. Please make checks payable to the Grand Lodge of Washington and on the memo line put “2015 Fire Relief Fund”.
Brothers, now is the time to make a difference.
On the afternoon of Saturday, January 16th at about 2:30 p.m. Daylight Lodge will film this year’s Junior Grand Warden and Grand Lodge Candidate Forum. It will follow the Daylight Stated Meeting in the Greenlake Masonic Hall. We invite you to send us any question you think should be asked of the several candidates. The questions might ask their views of the future of Grand Lodge, of Masonry in general, their experience in leadership plus what are their goals if elected.
It will be videotaped, placed on Daylight’s website, offered to Grand Lodge and any other lodge for their use. While the primary goal is to hear from Junior Grand Warden Candidates, we will tailor some questions specifically to the office of Grand Secretary as this is the first time there are two candidates filed for the office.
The event will be recorded by students of the Seattle Film Institute as part of Daylight’s support of their training program The editing will be supervised by Daylight brothers Troy McFarland and Paul Turcott who teaches there. It will be as professional a product as is possible to achieve. We know it will compare with that done last year or better.
We really hope that you will send us some good question so that the brethren throughout the jurisdiction might learn what their future leaders think. We reserve the right to select and edit questions.
Send your questions to:
